NOFARS JULY 10th MEETING PROGRAM ON EMP
Solid state technology allows large numbers of components to be crammed into
very small spaces.
But our use of integrated circuits also leaves us vulnerable to peril. An
Electromagnetic pulse (EMP)
could make most electronic systems useless.
Not only would it affect communications but also it could cripple most
conveniences that we use daily
such as automobiles and utility systems. An engineer with JEA, Todd
Lovelace, K1KVA has been
researching the potential for disruption from EMP. He will tell us what he
has discovered at the July 10th
NOFARS meeting. Plan to be at Ed White High School starting at 7:30PM.

WHO ARE WE ? |
|
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) of Duval County, Florida, is a service organization of Duval County amateur radio operators which activates during emergencies or public service events to provide communications support where and as needed. When telephone service, cell phones, radio and TV stations fail (usually due to lost power), we step in and provide communications for emergency personnel and Health & Welfare info for victims. We constantly prepare ourselves and our equipment to be ready to serve our community, or other communities, at any time, 24 - 7 - 365.
|
|
WHO DO WE HELP ? |
In the event of emergencies we are called on by the Duval County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the First Coast Disaster Council, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and other community organizations.
|
|
WHO CAN JOIN ? |
Membership is open to all licensed Duval county amateur radio operators interested in enhancing their hobby with the additional public service activities available as an ARES volunteer. We meet once a month for training in emergency communications and we deploy as needed for emergencies and events. We operate a weekly radio net and we drill periodically in order to be on the ready whenever needed.
